Halloween Treats from Dean and Deluca

This really has nothing to do with dogs. In fact all dogs should close there eyes and look away. Dogs will beg for these items but they are NOT for dogs.

They are for human consumption only.

Harriet’s mom is in New York City this week. And she’s jogging. Right past the window display at Dean and Deluca. Except sometime she stops and looks in the window and sees these irrestiable treats. For humans.

Caramel Apples.
Halloween Cookies.
A little marzipan Dracula family! I love marzipan. Do you think dogs like marzipan? Coco and Harriet say they do, but we don’t believe them and we’re not giving them the chance to find out. We said these treats are for humans.
Look at this ghost cake! It is so cute!

Coco and Harriet have no connection with Dean and Deluca. Neither do Coco and Harriet’s owners. Dean and Deluca doesn’t even know any of us exist.
Well, maybe they are aware of that jogger staring in the front window.

Trader Joe’s Chevre with Honey

This is some tasty goat cheese the dogs are begging for this week. Will they get it? I don’t think so. Coco’s finicky tummy has sent us to the vet a few too many times this year and she’s getting nothing but Nature’s Balance Sweet Potato and Fish diet (sounds horrible but she does love it). Harriet has a better chance to taste the goat cheese, if only she had some at her house.
The cheese is at Coco’s house. I’m sorry, Harriet.

One of the things we love about Trader Joe’s is that when you’re in there, sometimes another shopper will see you looking at an item and say “That’s really good, we had it last week and everyone loved it!” It’s like there’s an unspoken alliance between the customers to give each other encouragement when you find something really good. This doesn’t happen in regular grocery stores, I think it’s because the brands are well know, there’s plenty of advertising, you’re supposed to know what you’re doing. But at Trader Joe’s we’re all in discovery mode. What tasty treat awaits if only we have the confidence to try the unknown? “Yes, lady in the oversized t-shirt and baggy pants, try that artichoke pizza, I had it and it was delicious!”

So, this Chevre with Honey. We loved it, and I’m sorry it’s gone. I think I’ll head out to buy some more and when I do, I’ll be a good Trader Joe’s citizen and tell that guy with the anvil tattooed on his wrist to try it, he’ll like it!

Little french baboon.

Yesterday Coco had to go to the vet. And the vet had some sort of throat problem that meant he had to write down everything he wanted to say instead of talking. It ended up with a nasty looking red rash on her rear end costing 236.00 for a little ointment and some antibiotics that gave her diarhea. How do you spell that? I don’t even want to know. They shaved her derriere and now she looks like a little french baboon. I need a drink.

We know it’s hot almost everywhere but for some odd reason, here in Los Angeles we’ve been having a very mild summer and it’s nice to sit out in the backyard and when you’re sitting in the backyard, it’s nice to have a nice drink, perhaps a little something french made from elderflowers blossoms….  well, it’s been a long day and you can see the bottle is almost empty.

yummy cheese of the week: mimolette

We love cheese. The dogs love cheese. And who doesn’t love French cheese from Trader Joe’s?
Nobody that’s who. So we had to try this gorgeous mimolette. It’s looks like it might be like a cheddar but it’s actually closer to Edam in origin. It was invented (is cheese invented?) at the request of  Louis XIV and it’s delicious, kinda of like a young parmesan and it ages real nice too.

It’s got a rough gray rind apparently made by something  or someone called “cheese mites”.
We cut that part off and ate the yummy part on water crackers.
After much begging the dogs got a small sliver. or 4.
